Week 18

Well we had a good week!

The beginning of the week we worked on regular maintenance stuff, getting ready for the team. Tuesday Joel and Shannon worked on the backhoe and got the heads, the valve train, and engine assembled, the manifold on, all it needs is oil now. Before life group Joel got a guys welder from the village going so he's going to use it to fix the church van and the Tacoma (the one that fell in half.)

Wednesday we got to go to Belmopan, it was our first time there and we had a super fun day :)  As an added bonus we FINALLY found a place there that sells blue paint! We had been twice to Dangriga and they were out. So Joel called every place in Belmopan and finally got someone to order it.  We had lunch (at a restaurant!) with our friends from World Gospel Outreach. It was a wonderful visit, they are so encouraging to us and we had a great time.  Also while we were there we ran into the lady from Belize Bird Rescue that picked up our parrot Jessi. So she told us all about him and how well he's doing, it was really cool! And she invited us to come visit so we might do that next month when my parents are here :)

On the way home we took the Hummingbird Highway through the mountains, it was sooo pretty.

The rest of the week wasn't quite so fun ;) Once we got the blue paint Joel worked on painting the North side of the lodge. Plus all the touch ups and trim and stuff that always pops up. Check out the scaffolding:

And check it out all done!

Joel also worked on mowing and we both worked on the looong list of things we want to get done before the team comes NEXT WEEK.

We had 5 days of wind which was wonderful, however the beach was a MESS, as bad as it's been since we've been here:

So Joel got most of it cleaned up and ready to be raked and cleaned again probably.

And now this next week is all about preparing for the team! Please keep us in your prayers this is our first time doing this (having a team) so everything's new. Pray that we can all be a blessing to each other and the people of Gales Point. There are 22 people coming and they are doing all kinds of things including a dental clinic, home medical visits, VBS for the school kids, a construction project, and some painting. They're also sponsoring a church picnic. Should be a super fun busy week!

Week 17

Happy Sunday!

We had a nice week. The weather has been wonderful, today it's sunny and breezy, just perfect.

Joel started out the week working on the driveway. There was a part of it that had turned into a river. He had added rocks but it was becoming impassible again.

So he needed to add a culvert

found this little guy in the culvert....

Done! For now.... ;)

We also spent a lot of time painting trim, mostly the posts. They sure look nice though!

We went to Dangriga one day to do our visa's and make like 12 other stops. It's a lot of work when you only go once a month to get everything done! We had to stop at the bank to get money, go to the market for fruit/veggies, renew our visa's, get insurance for the truck, get the truck registered, go to the chicken place, the grocery store, the hardware store, and a store to get corn for the chicks. No one-stop shopping here! We try to make it fun but it's so busy. Sage and I got a chance to take a walk while Joel was waiting for the insurance to come through. Here's a picture of downtown Dangriga. And Sage super excited about having some ice cream :) Hey, I was excited too!

We STILL have not gotten the rat that's been terrorizing our kitchen. He chews through plastic things and doesn't even eat the food in them! We got serious and got a trap:

And still....nothing.

So every night I pack up anything he likes or might like and put it in the oven:

It's the only safe place other than the fridge I've found!

Our chicks are getting bigger so we moved them to the grass:

They're still close enough for Sage to go grab and bring inside to play with ;)

Joel spent a couple days fishing with some of the guys too, it's cool how he gets to have one on one time out on the boat. It really has been a great time for them to have church out on the water especially since we can't leave the base very often, and all while catching a meal or two of fish!

Well that pretty much sums up our week!
