Keeping Perspective

I (Jes) have begun to realize that this is when our ministry is starting.  As we share our plans with others there are a lot of questions that come up and opportunities to share what God has been doing in our lives to bring us to this point.  I feel totally unprepared for this!

The last couple weeks have been kind of sad.  While we've been thinking about this for a long time it's the first our family and friends have heard of our ministry plans.  Everyone has been so great and supportive but there's an underlying sadness because we know we will be leaving at some point.

During worship night a couple nights ago there was a song we sang called 'Redeemer', let me share some of the lyrics:

Blessed Redeemer, precious Redeemer
Seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree
Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading
Blind and unheeding, dying for me

"Father, forgive them," my Savior prayed

Even while His lifeblood flowed fast away
Praying for sinners while in such woe
No one but Jesus ever loved so

This served as a great reminder to stop focusing on how this is affecting ME and my family and to get my focus back on JESUS who DIED for me!  How small is what we're giving up compared to His LIFE He gave for us!

  1. I am so excited for you! I wish I was about 20 yeras younger and I'd offer to join you. Meanwhile, if you want some quick Spanish tutoring, let me know. I'm cheap (free). LOL! Also, it might be helpful for you to read my book, Rebel With a Cause. I think your grandma Janice has a copy of it, or maybe your mom does too, Jess. God bless! It's a wonderful life!

  2. I'm so happy to see your blog! Your missionary work DOES start now! I also recommend two books, "The Hole in Our Gospel" and "Radical, Reclaiming Your Faith From the American Dream." Both very good and motivating to us as we prepared for mission work.

  3. Well I read Radical and about 2 months ago and Joel is reading it now! That is the most amazing book and really did help us decide what we were supposed to do for sure. It's like it put into words everything we had been feeling up until then. And I'm reading The Hole in Our Gospel right now - because I saw it on your website and it sounded really good - and it's awesome so far!
